One of the actions that came out of the meeting this week, was to set up a suitable online video meeting platform.
My personal preference is Discord, Discord is a VoIP and instant messaging social platform. Users have the ability to communicate with voice calls, video calls, text messaging, media, and files in private chats or as part of communities called servers. I personally have been a discord user for about seven years, and have been moderating servers for about 6 years now, and am happy to set up and moderate a server for this. I understand that Discord may not be a suitable platform for the forum aspect of the club, and it looks like the forum that we have set up already is working well, but Discord is definitely a great option for online meetings, events, sharing small files, and having spontaneous discussions. It works on desktop and mobile, for Windows, Linux, Android and IOS.
I am happy to go ahead and set up a server if people are interested, or we could look at alternative options such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet if preferred. I look forwards to hearing your input on this.
Thanks,

+1 from me.9 October 2022 at 10:45 am #1356picnicParticipantPersonally I find it hard to follow conversations in Discord, seems to be a big monolithic list of messages. However, I’m also struggling with this forum as there doesn’t appear to be a visual indication of what topics/posts you read. Also no Private Messages or, as mentioned elsewhere, the ability to attach pictures or other files. Highly useful features IMHO.
I help run a couple of SMF based forums but these require server/hosting facilities. I like Discord because at the entry level it’s free and hosted in the cloud. Not mentioned above but you can also share your screen or just a Window. Often useful when demonstrating something or helping another out.

This would be primarily for live chats, small file sharing, video calling, and screen sharing as there is no time limit on these.
Here is the server:

If it is not a useful resource I will shut it down later.17 October 2022 at 9:25 pm #1366Haydn BrownParticipantMy last post regarding Discord accidentally had a temporary link.
Here is a permanent one:
